Summer Safety tips
Water Safety - Get skilled; know your limits; buddy up; only swim in safe areas. Pay attention to warning flags on beaches.
Sunburn Prevention - Protect your skin with sunscreen, hats, clothing, and sunglasses. Avoid direct exposure, find shady areas.
Preventing Dehydration - Drink before, during, and after activity. Do not drink fluids that contain caffeine or alcohol. Wear light-weight, light-colored, breathable clothing. Take frequent breaks.
Insect Bites - Wear insect repellent!
Ticks - Wear appropriate clothing. Check children at the end of each day. Use proper technique when removing.
Safe Rides - Wear a helmet when biking, skating, or skateboarding. Use seat-belts and car seats. Never leave children or pets in a hot car.
Poison Ivy - The American Academy of Dermatology recommends cool showers and oatmeal baths for mild cases. If itching and swelling become moderate to severe, prescription medications can be used to reduce symptoms.
Food Poisoning - Keep perishable food in well insulated coolers.
Strangers - What would your children do if a stranger asked them to help find his puppy? Would your children accept candy from someone they didn't know? Take time to teach your children about strangers.
